History repeats itself and we must learn from it or we are doomed to repeat it.  In the early 1900’s, New Mexico wanted statehood.  But the territory was unlawful and was rejected. 

Finally in 1912, the crime came under control and New Mexico became a state. 

Truth or Consequences is a leading community in many ways. 

• Communication between the citizens and the City maintain the flow of innovation and inspires the City. 
• Also through communication, small businesses develop innovative markets.  
• The library and educational institutions are achievements.  
• Our low cost of living allows affordability to those on fixed incomes.  
• Our strength is our balance. 
• We inspire others. 

We are back to the turn-of-the-century pattern of blocked progress.  We, the people, can do better.  We residents of Truth or Consequences are the Executive Branch of our city government.  T or C’s people are part of a civil society.  The citizens define the real issues and solve the real problems.  

I have decided to become a part of the legislative Branch of our city government to govern in ways that reflect the wishes of our residents.  The City is the governing body. By definition, the city governs, it does not rule.

The Native Americans had a tradition concerning governance.  Every time someone tried to make a new law, s/he stood on a platform, with a rope around the neck.  If the law was good and the people could work with it, then the rope was removed.  If the law was bad and no one could use it, the plank was removed.
